One of our clients’ main problem is data management. By implementing Autodesk Vault, we solve all those problems. While documents are in digital format, it is easy to check drawing status, track changes, history and revisions.
But in the end, our clients usually plot their drawings and send them in production or on the field. A user that received a paper version of the drawing, cannot be sure if that is the latest version of the drawing, or maybe in that particular moment, somebody is making changes on a digital version of the file.
To solve this problem, TeamCAD has developed a solution, made from two individual components.
First is custom Job for Autodesk Vault Job server. This job generates a unique bar code with necessary data, and automatically write barcode into a drawing.
The second part of the solution is an independent application, that is able to provide information based on data received by reading barcode from drawing (with bar code reader). After scanning the barcode, the application reads current file status from Autodesk Vault in real-time and informs the user if that drawing is the latest version that can be used in production/construction or there is a newer version of the drawing in Vault.
As by default, Autodesk Vault changes revision as soon as an engineer switch lifecycle from “Released” to “Work in progress”. The user that scans paper drawing will be informed that he cannot use that drawing in production, as somebody is making changes at that particular moment.
In that case, the engineer can prevent costly errors caused by using wrong drawings, simply by changing the lifecycle state of the drawing, even if he has no time to work on drawings at that moment. All files with the changed state (and revision) will be shown to the user that scans the barcode, as outdated.
